UPCOMING EVENTS, CLASSES, AND GROUPS
Soup For The Soul
Thursdays, 12 PM
At the Center for Spiritual Living, Eugene
390 Vernal Street, Eugene, Oregon
Rev. Linda (or a guest host in April and May) offers a weekly gathering on Thursdays at noon, called Soup for the Soul. There is an offering of soup and bread for lunch, and we meet for an hour to discuss one of the Principles of Science of Mind, and the practices that can help us put it to work in our lives. It is about exploring what it is we believe, and HOW to live the Principles into action.
It is offered on a love offering basis, and is a drop-in event.
Each week will stand alone, so it is an open discussion and everyone is welcome!
Shamanic Journeying and Drumming Session
With Rich Sixel
Every Third Saturday of the month, 6 - 8 PM
Shamanic drumming uses a repetitive rhythm that begins slowly and then gradually builds in intensity to a tempo of three to seven beats per second. The ascending tempo will induce light to deep trance states, and facilitate the shamanic techniques of journeying.
Generally shamanic journeying is a way of communicating with your inner or soul self to retrieve information.
This is basically drumming meditation. Rich let us know it would be his pleasure to share some of his Frame Drums and rattles to use during the session.
A recommended love offering of $10-$20 will be accepted at the event. No one will be turned away, and everyone is welcome.

“Jacob the Baker” by Noah benShea
At the Center for Spiritual Living, Eugene 390 Vernal Street, Eugene, Oregon
“Jacob, the Baker” is a timeless story about a man whose humble life and profound wisdom are a source of both inspiration and reflection to those around him. This simple book kindles the human spirit. Its gentle message inviting each of us witness that “a miracle is often the willingness to see the common in an uncommon way”
Jacob is a poor but pious figure who rises before dawn to light the ovens of the town bakery as the ovens are warming and the first dough rising, Jacob turns inward scribbling notes to himself – thoughts and observations ringing with the clarity of a soul unencumbered by “the weight of its own importance.”
The questions put to Jacob are as diverse as death and charity, eternity and anger and Jacob’s responses are always a celebration of rightness, a reminder of the purpose and order in life. He is a wise and gentle friend who renews our sense of belonging to the world.
This book is a a treasury of answers in the form of brief stories and parables. Rev. Liz says “this is now my all time favorite book.” My favorite quote is found on page 99: “Understanding is living in a house where every room has a point of view”.
This book club will begin on Thursdays. Dates will be May 7, 14, 21, 28. Time: 11 a.m.
NO FEE FOR this club but love offering is greatly appreciated. Books are available: $8 each.

Shadow Work is something a lot of people talk about but nobody really wants to do. It sounds big. It sounds hard. It sounds like more than we are ready to do. In reality, as I have played with it over the years, shadow work is basic and actually uplifting. It is not about getting rid of parts of ourselves, but more about learning how to open the door and welcome those parts of us back in.
I have been evolving this class for close to 10 years, and it keeps expanding and going deeper. If you have tried it before, I invite you to try it again - and if the whole concept is new to you, I invite you to stick your toe in the water and give it a try.
We will be meeting on Wednesdays for 6 weeks. The Live (in person) session will be at 1:30pm at the Center in the Social Hall, and the online version will be the same day, at 5:30pm. We will meet about 90 minutes each week. There is no textbook, but there will be some home contemplative work during the week. I really want to make this accessible to everyone, so I am offering it on a sliding scale, from $5 per week to $25 per week, based on your needs. Every class builds on the one before, so please make sure you are available to attend all 6 sessions.
I am very excited to be sharing this class with you again!

Guest speaker Rev. Laura Stewart
My life has been a journey of awakening, transformation, and opening to a fuller and richer consciousness of who I am and my relationship with Spirit. From a young age, I have known that my calling is to be a loving presence in the world. This begins with seeing God everywhere and as everything. Sometimes it feels like God is playing hide-and-seek but ultimately Its presence is made known.
I was first introduced to Religious Science in 2006 and took to this philosophy like a fish out of water. I have never stopped swimming. In 2014 I became a licensed Practitioner, I have been actively involved with the WMOP since 2017, and in 2019 I entered the Holmes Institute School of Consciousness Studies and the School of Spiritual Leadership. I am in my final year of school and excited to see what God has in store for me following graduation in 2024.
I live in southern Oregon with my husband, our two golden retrievers, and our free-spirited cat. I attend CSL Rogue Valley where I enjoy serving my spiritual community and participating in outreach to our greater community. I have been in the construction industry for 30 years and am dedicated to bringing spiritual principles to the workplace. I am grateful to be a part of the CLS community where we consciously create a world that works for all, one day at a time.
Shanti Shivani & Friends
Shanti Shivani and her highly gifted friends will be setting up a sacred space which allows the listeners to let go of the chattering mind and rest in the heart where they can experience Oneness with the Divine.
They will be offering sacred songs with call-and-response sections from the Sufi, Hindu and Buddhist traditions as a bridge between different religions and cultures. These chants bring mind, body, and voice together in a way that is spiritually liberating, and physically, mentally and emotionally restorative.
Shanti Shivani likes to call her concerts ‘Prayerformances’ as the chants begin in a meditative mood and move into Joy when the pace gets faster and faster - all while sending our prayers and Love into the world.
Let us join in song to transcend division and remember our Oneness as citizens of the Earth.

What Does it Mean to be A Spiritual Warrior
"In times of great challenge we are called upon to embody our spirituality through action in the world. How do we embody the discipline and resolve of the warrior at a Spiritual level? How do we rise above strife to bring peace on Earth? What is our role in the Spiritual Battle of our Times? How can Non-violence resolve violence?'
Sean has been a Licensed Spiritual Practitioner for Portland Center for Spiritual Living since August 2021. His pedagogy is focused on direct and practical experience. He shares various meditation practices, emotion identification and non-violent communication. He also holds Socratic dialogues on Universal Spiritual Principles, as taught in Science of Mind. In these, others are free to share and explore topics such as Love, Harmony, Wisdom etc. in a context absent of ‘right and wrong’ while focused on expanding conception and enlivening embodiment.
Sean’s Spiritual Resume includes: In addition to being a Religious Science Practitioner (RScP), Sean has training in Tai Chi Chuan under a Taoist Master, spent time at a Buddhist Monastery, been initiated by a Celtic Druid in Ireland, and studied the Western Hermetic Tradition under a Sage of that Discipline.
Sean’s Youth Resume includes: Being Youth Program Director at CSL Portland, 2013-2020. A preschool teacher for 3.5 years. A Mental Health Technician and Cook at a Residential Treatment Facility for Troubled Teens for 1.5 years. A summer camp counselor for 3 years. A babysitter for many, many evenings. A godfather of darling baby Inna.
